HistoryTenino Washington, a stop on the stage coach run from the Columbia River to Olympia. Settled by Stephen Hodgden when he came west from the gold rush in 1872. As settlers came, so did the railroad. Engine 1090 was thought to be the name sake for the town. The stone quarry business became Tenino's major industry in the early 1900's along with logging. Tenino9 also became well known for its development of the wooden nickel and dollars in the depression years. |
